A Boat Propeller Is Important

Author: boater, 07 16th, 2010

To some, choosing the right boat propeller can seem like a job for a marine service center. Anything that has to do with the backend of the boat can be a scary thing. Despite popular belief, choosing the correct propeller for a particular boat and motor is actually a fairly simple thing to do, once you understand what a propeller really is.

First think of boat propellers as a gear, whether it be on a car or even a bicycle. The lower the gear, faster hole shot, more power, but revolutions are much faster so at a point you can only turn that gear so fast until you over rev the engine (or you legs). Now think of your car stuck in only 5th or 6th gear, very slow out of the hole, little torque, but eventually it will catch up with itself so you can cruise to a good speed.

Making the Most of Retirement

When my wife and I retired a few years ago, we decided to reward ourselves for a lifetime of hard work. For starters, we took a two-year escapade around the globe, traveling to all of the countries we’ve read about in order to experience the culture and scenery firsthand. After we arrived back home, we decided to sell our house and purchase a small waterfront villa.

Since our new abode was considerably cheaper, we had a sizeable chunk of change left over from the sale. We used the funds to invest in a sizeable yacht—for further sojourning—and a motorboat to entertain our children and grandkids. Of course, we also purchased a surfeit of inflatable water toys to keep the kids entertained and encourage frequent trips to grandma and grandpa’s house.
