Life jackets may be  the most important part of your marine accessories because they save lives, if you are jumping in the water to cool off you should have a life jacket close by and you should not jump in the water if you are the only one in the boat.  Remember life jackets are a life saving device and should be cared for that way, do not store them wet in an enclosed area because that will let them mildew and become rotten and not safe to use when it is needed.  You can choose from a variety of manufactures as well as styles and colors just make sure they will provide the safety that they are designed to do and look for the Coast Guard approval.

GPS: It’s Not Just for Landlubbers

Author: WaterBlogged, 05 05th, 2010

When most people think of GPS technology, it’s probably the version made for cars that comes immediately to mind. Still, one could argue that these systems are even more practical for use on boats. When ships and small craft are far from land on an overcast evening, natural navigational clues are scarce indeed. With no lighthouse or constellations to guide them, boaters can drift far off course.

By putting a marine GPS chartplotter at the helm, it’s possible to avoid these problems entirely. GPS can also save the lives of the crew and passengers by alerting them about the presence of rock outcroppings and other treacherous debris that might be waiting in the murky depths. Clearly it’s just as crucial to have easy navigation ability at sea.
