In the summer of 1994 Jerry Gohl boarded a plane back to his home state of Nebraska, and in the cargo hold of that 747 sat 18 Golight, model 5149s. Those 18 lights were the first ever Golights produced, but they represented more than a first production run, they carried with them the fate of a fledgling company. In December of 1992 the idea for a remote controlled boat spotlight was spawned. Jerry parlayed a connection with a design engineer, Al Gebhard, into engineering drawings and eventually a prototype and by late 1993 tooling had been completed. With 18 lights in tow, Jerry set about explaining to buyers across the country what they had been missing prior to the Golight. The task was vast as was the implication; 5000 additional Golights were being manufactured and they needed shelf space.
Since then, Golight has set the industry standard in remote lighting. Our lights are in service around the world lightning the way for everything from MATVs in Afghanistan to snow plows in Alaska. The rest, as they say, is history, or so we thought. Recently a gentleman came strolling into our offices here at Golight. The gentleman, a rancher, had a Golight. It had been in his possession for a number of years, he couldn’t be sure exactly how many. Though his light was still in good working order, he wanted to inquire about upgrading to one of our wireless models. We gladly obliged and when we took a look at the serial number on his original light it was revealed to be one of the original 18 Golights produced. Jerry persuaded the gentleman to part with his light and it is now proudly displayed in a showcase in our foyer.

Wishing It Was Summer

neoprene life vests

Though summer has ended and we are well into the winter season, now is a great time to buy summer sporting equipment and items at discounted prices.  Jet skis, neoprene life vests, volleyball and badminton sets, and snorkeling equipment are all discounted heavily during the fall and winter seasons.  In addition, discount beach towels and apparel like swimwear is also available.

Though stores won’t carry these items after summer, online stores will try to get rid of them year round. Their excess supply translates into big savings for the savvy shopper. Though you won’t get to use summer equipment or apparel for quite a few months, you’ll be glad you have it once summer hits!

Now is a good time to start getting your boat ready for the warm summer that is just ahead believe it or not it will be here soon.

You can start by making sure your propeller is in good condition and not damaged so that it does not damage your outdrive or any other part of your boat and if you do not have a second prop on your boat  now is a good time to look at getting a second prop and make sure it is not the same size as the one on your boat now, if your prop is for taking you friends on an afternoon cruise then get a prop that lets you pull people on kneeboards or towables.

If you are looking for a little better economy and a better ride you should think about trim tabs as these will help your boat work a lot better.

Tune your boat, change the oil and make sure you change the oil in your outdrive or outboard engine and now is also a good time to check your battery because you do not want a dead battery in the middle of your season also check all your belts and pumps.

You should have put a good coat of wax on your boat before you put it away for the winter but if you did not now is a good time to do that and make sure your vinyl is clean and has protection on it.

If you have to travel your boat to your favorite spot check your trailer tires and brakes to make sure you have a great safe summer.  Now is a good time to make sure you renewed you tags for your boat as well as your trailer.  Make sure you have all your marine accessories such as life vest for everyone on your boat, oar, fire extinguisher, flash light as well as toys your are going to use one the water.

Stainless Steel Boat Propellers

Author: boater, 01 19th, 2010

Conti35969.gifnuing to use a damaged propeller can cause damage to the gearcase and ultimately the power head of your motor. When a propeller has sustained damage, it will not spin true, thus creating excessive vibrations that will transfer all the way into your motor.

A damaged propeller will also not perform as well as a new propeller because the damaged parts of the blade can degrade hydrodynamic efficiency

Stainless Steel Boat Propellers is harder to damage than aluminum but aluminum will give which will not damage your drive as easy as stainless steel.
