32634.gifRecently, a leading tech publication has selected five of the best GPS navigators in the market, and 4 out of the 5 devices were Garmin devices. Laymen and experts all agree that Garmin currently produces the best GPS navigators in the market. So if you are in the market shopping for one, you can’t go wrong with this brand.

Even when you have selected the brand, making a final choice can still be quite a daunting task ask Garmin produces a wide range of navigators. For me, I am always for the lookout for a product that gives me the best value for my money. I look for a product that gives me what I need without all the unnecessary bell’s and whistles. After some research, I finally settled for the Garmin Nuvi 255W portable marine GPS. Here is a quick look at what I got.

First of all, the price was right. At the time of writing, it costs around $180 a piece, which is as much as I would spend for a navigation gadget. Despite its price, it does come with a wide array of features. The 255W is so much more than a GPS device. With just a click of a button, you can find the nearest gas station, restaurant, or mall and find the shortest route to get there. Finding the best route tow reach your destination all the time will help you save time, energy and money.

You would think that a GPS device of this price would get you a small 3.5″ screen. The Garmin Nuvi 255W has a huge 4.3-inch touch screen that displays very clear images even in bright sunlight. The large screen makes it much easier to view, especially while you are driving. It also has 6 million point of interests and comes with maps of the USA (including Alaska, and Hawaii), Canada and several more. The Garmin Nuvi 255W also incorporates many functions that were once only found in more expensive navigators. It comes with text-to-speech functions, bicycle modes, image viewer, currency converter, calculator mode and much more.

Summer is Upon Us!

Summer is Upon Us!

While the first official day of summer is still a few weeks away, the weather is nice, the water is warm, and now is the perfect time to begin all those fun summer activities. Inflatable water sports are some of the most enjoyable summer activities, and it can be a lot of fun getting out on the water a few weekends before all the lakes and beaches are crowded. Whether it’s a rousing game of water volleyball, or being pulled behind a boat in an inflatable inner tube, water sports can be a whole lot of fun. However, it’s still important to be safe, especially when it comes to children. When pulling a child in an inner tube, always ensure that they’re wearing a life vest. While it’s unlikely the child will fall off, it’s still important for them to be prepared just in case. It’s also important to ensure the tow rope is secured to the boat, and that the rider has a firm grip on the line, or that it is secured to the inner tube.

Make sure to have a flagger in place just in case the rider goes down, and that the flagger knows the signals to indicate a downed rider in the water. This will ensure that other boats don’t travel in the area and hit the rider by mistake.

Propellers

316621.gifIf you damage your propeller it is probably not a good idea to try and fix it yourself, their a lot of prop repair shops that can fix your propeller properly.  Using your boat with a damaged propeller makes the propeller unbalanced and this will cause strain on your out drive which will lead to a very expensive repair job.  It is a good idea to carry an extra propeller on your boat so that if you damage your express stainless steel propeller you would have a back up aluminum boat propeller with a different pitch this would give you a ski propeller as well as a cruising propeller.

selection_hustler_mr_prop.pngNow that we have been boating we are finding out our boat is not working as we had hoped and one good way to help this is to make sure our propeller is in good condition.  Incorporating the newest and efficient design features based from high-performance stainless steel propellers, Hustler aluminum boat propellers run away from competition. Hustler High Performance series propellers are the only aluminum propeller manufactured with performance enhancing vent holes. There’s a Hustler propeller perfect for almost any boating application.

Solaris Solar Panels

handheldcell.pngSolaris’ primary mission is to provide low manufacturing cost, high efficiency and long life solar cells to capture a major portion of the projected growth of the global renewable energy market. Equity financing and Company resources are used exclusively towards this goal. However, since Solaris’ NanoAntennaTM materials present a number of other large market opportunities which are validated in part by the development of high efficiency photovoltaics, we have begun to pursue these other applications through externally funded collaborations, contracts, and agreements. These other applications of our nano-antenna technology and intellectual property include the enhancement of human vision, high performance liquid crystal displays, and chemical and biological sensing.

Solaris Nanosciences is a subsidiary of Spectra Systems Corporation (www.spsy.com), a profitable, private company spun out of Brown University in 1996. Spectra Systems’ core competence in high performance optical materials, intellectual property and physical infrastructure led to the launch of Solaris Nanosciences in May of 2004.

Our broad technology platform addresses the following opportunities:

  • Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells for direct conversion of sunlight to electrical energy at commercially competitive costs,
  • Liquid Crystal Displays with enhanced viewing angles and brightness,
  • Enhanced Vision for patients suffering from diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affecting the retinal photoreceptors.
  • Chemical and Biological Sensing
