Author: boater, 06 02nd, 2010

As we all know this last weekend was Memorial Day and the beginning of the boating season and it sure was for a lot of boaters out on the lake doing all kinds of boating sports but I only saw one fisherman out in all the crazy boating and he even caught fish with all the boats on the lake and the reason why was because he had a Humminbird fishfinderFor over 30 years we’ve been America’s favorite Fishfinder – the leading innovator of Side Imaging technology – providing recreational and professional anglers difference-making days out on the water, day after day, year after year.

Find Your Way With A Marine GPS

Author: boater, 05 13th, 2010

Last summer I was boating with some friends on Lake Michigan and were out so far that we lost the sight of land, this was my first time out on Lake Michigan and was completely lost and I had no idea which way to go but luckily the boat owner had a marine GPS unit which made me feel secure because I knew we would get back to land.  Marine GPS units come in different styles as well as from several manufactures at a lot of different price points so it is very easy to find a unit that fits your needs as well as your budget.

Boat Dock Bumpers

Author: boater, 05 05th, 2010

The other day I was watching someone trying to put their boat into a slip without boat dock bumpers and they were bouncing off both sides of the dock which left a lot of marks on the side of the boat which some may come off and the others may not.   If you are good boat driver or not so good you need to use boat dock bumpers because their is always a chance a gust of wind could come up and push you into the dock and their goes a nice big scratch.

Bennett Trim Tabs

The motor for the whole Bennett trim tab system, the Bennett  Hydraulic Power Unit, is installed inside the boat in a dry environment.

Hydraulic actuators do not rely on a seal where the shaft enters the cylinder body. Instead the seal is made on the piston face inside the cylinder where no marine growth can occur. Even if a barnacle grows on the shaft, it will not cause a leak.

If a seal on a hydraulic actuator should break, its replacement cost is about $1.00 compared to the cost of replacing an entire electric actuator.

Handheld GPS

Garmin handheld GPS units are considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the best all-around handheld GPS unit available on the consumer market today.

The GPSMAP 60CSx is an upgrade of the GPSMAP 60CS, one of the best selling handheld GPS units for outdoor and marine use. This unit features a removable microSD card so you can expand the mapping memory. This has been one of the most requested features by Garmin customers and is reason enough to upgrade from the GPSMAP 60CS. The microSD card slot is located inside the waterproof battery compartment and users can load map data and transfer routes and waypoints through the unit’s fast USB connection.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of the GPSMAP 60CSx is the new, highly sensitive, third-generation GPS receiver chip by SiRF. This SiRFStar III chip locks on to satellite signals faster and lets users track their position in more challenging conditions like heavy tree cover or deep canyons. The GPSMAP 60CSx also features a barometric altimeter for accurate elevation data and an electronic compass that can be used while stationary.

Boating

Author: boater, 03 30th, 2010

Boating is not just cruising around on the water listening to your marine stereo and pulling someone on inflatable toys, boating is about safety of your boat and people in it but the safety of others in other boats.  A boater can not assume that people in the boat traveling close to you knows what they are doing or what they are doing other than boating so you must boat like they do not see you.  Your boat propeller should be in good working order so you get the best performance from it and you need a life jacket for everyone on the boat.

Boat Cleaners

Author: boater, 03 29th, 2010

Their are a lot of boat cleaners on the market today which makes it very hard to choose the product that will fit your needs.  Start by accessing how serious the problem is on your boat and is the surface fiberglass or is it a painted surface most boats are fiberglass with a gel coat, when you choose the boat cleaning product you want to use make sure you test it in a small area to make sure it does not damage your boat this is especially true if you are cleaning the vinyl seats in your boat because some boat vinyl cleaners can really change the look of your vinyl.
