Comfort

Author: boater, 03 02nd, 2011

Life jackets and vests are generally constructed of nylon or neoprene. Fit is major difference between the two. Nylon life jackets must be snug but clasped or otherwise closed around the body, with the sections of the jacket meeting without overlap. Neoprene life vests fit very snugly on the body when dry, as they do expand in the water and will loosen. A Neoprene life jacket are often considered much more comfortable and seem to afford more flexibility and freedom of movement, particularly for those engaging in rigorous activities such as water skiing and paddling.

Beyond a less “boxy” and more cozy fit, the more streamlined Neoprene life vests offer an added benefit that may prove critical during a water emergency, and also more comfortable during standard water sporting. That is, Neoprene life vests insulate the body against cold and allow retention of the body’s own heat, although the Neoprene itself is usually only about 5mm thick. If colder waters or extended immersion time are a potential factor in sporting, Neoprene is most preferred by water enthusiasts.

Their should be several safety items on your marine accessories list and childrens life jackets should be one of them and one that you have to update all the time because your children grow.  Childrens life jackets range from infant to teen with lots of style and colors to choose from.  The Coast Guard says that any child twelve or under must wear a life jacket but you have to make sure that if they or over twelve that they can handle the water safely without a childrens life jacket.

Best Life Jacket

Author: boater, 01 21st, 2011

The best Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is the one you wear. That’s why choosing the Mustang Life Jacket that best fits your favorite water sports activity is important. Foam vests are great for active in-the-water adventures while inflatable PFDs are quickly becoming commonplace in most other marine activities. Manually inflating PFDs are a good choice for people who are comfortable in the water and expect to be spending some time in it, such as paddlers or river fishermen. If you don?t expect to end up in the water, but want the confidence of knowing that your Mustang Life Jacket will inflate automatically in seconds if the unexpected happens, an automatic inflatable PFD is your best choice . Our exclusive HIT? (Hydrostatic Inflator Technology) automatic inflatable PFDs are perfect if you spend time in high humidity or wet weather.

Manual inflatable Mustang Life Jackets inflate by pulling the jerk tab that hangs from the PFD at waist-height whereas automatic inflatable PFDs inflate when immersed in water (or by manually pulling the jerk tab). All of our Inflatable PFDs provide 35 lb buoyancy when inflated and at least 3 1/4″ of freeboard (distance between the mouth and the surface of the water). Remember to check your inflatable PFD regularly to ensure it is in good working order and ready to be called into action when needed.
