Protecting Your Hull with Boat Bumpers

Author: WaterBlogged, 08 16th, 2010

Even the most experienced boaters bump the dock from time to time when they are coming in to tie up. And while it may not seem like casually grazing the dock at 5 mph is a big deal, you have to keep in mind how large your boat is. If you just tap a corner or wall in your car, you’ll at least scratch off the paint and probably dent the bumper, and the same is true for a boat.

The only difference is that you have even less control in the water than you do behind the wheel. In order to ensure your boat’s hull stays safe, it important to invest in a boat dock bumper for each corner of your vessel. This way if your boat bobs into the dock, you’ll simply bounce right off.

What Is A Boat Bumper

Yes you need boat bumpers for your boat, if you do not the hull on your boat will not look good very long or it will to like a car without bumpers.  If you like keeping your boat looking very good the boat bumpers will be a very important part of your marine accessories list.  Not all boaters take care of their boat so if they are close to your boat you know they are going to bump it and leave a permanent mark on your boat so make sure you have enough boat bumpers to go on both sides of your boat.

Boat fenders do the same thing for your boat as car fenders do for your car they protect it scratches when other boats are tied up next to you are from when you are tied up at a dock.  If you get dock marks on the side of your boat you will find that they are very hard to remove and if you do find a way to remove them you should be very careful because you could damage your gel coat.  When you get away from the dock make sure you put the boat fenders back in the boat before you go fast because they will bounce around and will leave marks on the side of your boat.  If you do not have room for the boat fenders inside you boat you can buy holders for them, just make sure you have them and use them.

A boat dock bumper is not a bumper like the bumper on your car it an item that you hang on the side of your boat to protect from doing damage to your boat if you hit the dock.  You should carry at least four boat bumpers on your boat in case you need protection on both sides of your boat, you never know where some boater will  try to tie their boat off.  You need boat dock bumpers in a lot of different circumstances such as when you get gas at a marina or when you are next to other boats floating around or when you are going to tie up to the dock at the end of the day.
