Safe Boating Weather Tips

Safe Boating Weather TipsYou know the weather…It can be both friend and foe. Calm winds and seas make for enjoyable power boating, waterskiing, and fishing. A fresh breeze and a light chop provide an invigorating sailing or wind surfing experience. But the sudden emergence of dark clouds, shifting and gusty winds, torrential downpours and lightning can turn a day’s pleasure into a nightmare of distress. Here are some tips on how to keep your pleasure and safety to a maximum. Plan for boating fun…Several days ahead of time start listening for the National Weather Service extended 5-day outlooks on NOAA Weather Radio, AM/FM radio, and TV. The outlooks give general information to help you decide whether or not to continue making plans. Before setting out…Pay close attention to the TV weathercast and listen to detailed marine weather forecasts on NOAA Weather Radio. Take note of small boat cautionary statements, Small Craft Advisories, or Gale or Storm Warnings in the forecasts. The Advisories and Warnings (see definitions) alert mariners to higher winds and waves either occurring now or forecast to occur up to 24 hours from now. Advisories and Warnings for conditions expected later give mariners time to take action to protect life and property. After setting out…Don’t touch that dial! Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio. You know the weather -it changes! The change often occurs out of your sight and may be headed your way. Updated warnings and forecasts are aired immediately on NOAA Weather Radio, alerting you to changes that may require action on your part. But you can help yourself… It’s up to YOU! While on the water, stay alert…
Radio TipsIf you have a VHF transceiver with built-in NOAA Weather Radio channels, use them. If your VHF radio is not equipped with weather channels, you may want to buy a VHF weather radio - they’re readily available. Keep in mind, however, broadcast reception varies with the location of you and the transmitter, the quality of the radio, and any obstructions. A broad, average range is 20 to 40 miles. If you venture beyond that range, you should consider buying a good quality HF single sideband transceiver to add to your VHF. It may be more expensive, but it is worth it to be able to get the information that may save your life and property. Weather Information Broadcasts, and having a Cobra CB radio can help in an emergency. Weather Information Broadcasts*

Special Features And Advantages Of Waterproof Speakers
, 04 07th, 2009
The term waterproof means something that will work in spite of any amount of water thrown on it, even amidst temporary sinking. This quality depends on the time, and on the depth of water.
Waterproof marine audio components are invaluable for boaters who are expected to stay around lots of water for a longer period of time. Actually a waterproof speaker is also popularly known as a marine speaker that is an invincible part of stero sound
in a wet environment.Broadly, waterproof speakers can be divided into four main categories: dual cone speakers, coaxial speakers, component speakers, and sub-woofers. Dual cone speakers are those that have only one driver or sound output source, but use two different cones that come in large and small sizes. The larger cone is meant for mid-range and low frequencies while the smaller is for high frequencies. This kind of speakers work fairly well but lack the capacity for a broad spectrum of sound frequencies. The buyers often consider these because they are cheap.Coaxial speakers are also known as 2 way or 3 way speakers. They use multiple drivers to handle different frequencies. The term coaxial means that one speaker is wrapped around with another speaker. The tweeter that handles the high frequency is situated in the middle of the speaker and surrounded by a woofer that handles mid range and low frequencies. The coaxial speaker delivers better performance than a dual cone speaker, but sometimes the components are not necessarily as good as that of a component speaker.
The third type of waterproof speaker is component speaker that is actually more than one speaker. The configuration of this speaker is set up in such a way that the higher and the lower frequencies are each handled by completely separate speakers. Through crossover the frequencies are divided electronically so that each speaker is required to produce its own quota of frequencies. So, this definitely helps in the best sound production.
The fourth type is the sub-woofer
that is designed only to set the bass frequencies. Actually sub-woofers are meant for heavy thunder like sounds, but the use depends on the opinion of the user because a good quality coaxial or component speaker can produce the same sound effect as the sub-woofer does. Now while choosing waterproof speakers certain points should be kept in mind. Considering a cutout size is an important point, especially if existing speakers are being replaced with the new one. This will help the buyer to cut short in search because the person knows what to buy.
If the new speakers are to be installed the measurement of the area is very important so as to get an idea about where we can place them. Since larger speakers have the tendency to deliver better sound performance, we must try to find the largest space possible. The depth of the space behind the speaker should also be ensured so that the heat that is generated will be cooled down. Thus, the cables will be saved from melting.
Considering speaker quality is another important thing to be kept in mind. The quality of a speaker depends upon the frequency range of sound that it is able to reproduce. One example would clear this point. For instance, take the difference between a telephone speaker and a stereo speaker
. The telephone speakers produce mid range frequencies that are all right for human voice but for realistic high quality sound we need much more bass and treble.
Buffet All the Way Baby!
, 03 11th, 2009
I am a party dude! That’s what all my friends call me “the party dude.” I love my nickname and I made good use of my reputation by throwing theme parties as often as I can. The next theme party I plan to have is a boating in the Bahamas party. I am even renting out a pontoon boat just for the occasion.
One thing that concerned me however, was the fact that I wanted to play music on the boat but I had no idea whether or not it had speakers. After a phone call to the rental agent I was pleased to learn that the pontoon has full-power marine speakers. People would be hearing Jimmy Buffet for miles around!
